The implementation of self-directed work teams is often accompanied by a variety of complications. In some cases, for instance, team members expect that they are supposed to start with a peer appraisal the next day. In other cases, tensions arise between the team and the team leader, because the team wants to move forward more rapidly or with more determination, while the team leader is reluctant to delegate responsibilities. Similarly, there are also situations in which supporting staff is unwilling to decentralize specific managerial tasks. Such problems may cause the stagnation of team development, a disappointing output, or even chaos.
